Field Trip Fun

I got to join EK on her field trip last week. I was excited to spend the day with my big girl. She was excited to ride the charter bus. The third grade has been studying the Civil War so she was thrilled  to get to check out some historical sites around Mississippi as well as "walk where they actually walked" along the Natchez Trace.

Our first stop was Rocky Springs. The town is no more, but several artifacts still remain tucked away amongst the poison ivy along the trails.
The church and cemetery are all that remain of the settlement. The kids had a large time doing grave rubbings.
Next up was the Sunken Trace. This is a small portion of the original Natchez Trace where you can walk the trails the travelers followed. It's sunken because of the great number of people who followed the Trace. EK is standing on the trail in the picture below and you can see how high up the sides go.
We then headed to the Gulf State Military Park.

The cutest little church was at the park. The preacher's kid did a little confessional time and some preaching.

Look at the size of that stump!  That was quite a tree!
The jail was a favorite stop. The kids were hysterical locking each other up.
EK took hundreds of pictures (I have no idea where she gets it from😂)  She really enjoyed all the old vehicles like the ambulance from the Civil War (a covered wagon!) and all the different fire trucks used during through the years.

Our last stop was the  Windsor Ruins. Absolutely amazing to see!

It was a great day exploring with my history loving girl.
