Frontier Culture Museum Visit

Our last day in Staunton was packed with a few more fun activities. We started the day at a glass blowing store. We watched the master artist create a vase from beginning to end. It was fascinating!
EK was very excited to pick out a glass necklace from the store!
We ate some yummy lunch and then headed to the Frontier Culture Museum. It was  very similar to Colonial Williamsburg and we really enjoyed learning about the early immigrants and their descendants who settled in that area.
We pretty much had the place to ourselves because ALL THE SNOW but in the words of Elsa, "the cold never bothered us anyway" or something like that!
Each area had people in costume (well except in this forge where she was just covering for the blacksmith while he was at lunch😂) who explained what life looked like for the people living during that time. In this particular forge, she showed them how to make nails and the kids got to help pump the bellows to get the fire hot enough.

Ah, here's a costume!  Each character described the houses and explained where everyone would sleep and what responsibilities each member of the household would have to do. The kids were curious about the bathroom situation😳😳😳
This fellow explained that he grew the flax that was used to make the threads for the loom. EK really liked learning about this since she loves seeing so much.
Emma knew exactly what the spinning wheel was thanks to Sleeping Beauty!
We got a lesson on ironing. As much as I despise ironing I am thankful that mine just plugs in and I don't have to lug the iron ones back and forth to  the fire over and over again.
The school house was the favorite of all the stops for sure.
We very much enjoyed our time at this museum. EK would have stayed all day reading about each area. She loves history!  We had the best time visiting Virginia and we can't wait to go back again!
